Essential Amino Acids for Cognitive and Social Functioning

The importance of a healthy diet enhanced with essential amino acids may help cognitive performance, as shown in a study with 105 senior volunteers. Researchers investigated the effects of a powdered supplement containing seven essential amino acids on cognitive and psychosocial functioning. The participants were randomized into three groups and daily administered either a placebo, or 3 or 6 grams of the substance. After 12 weeks, those taking the 6-gram supplement showed improved performance in memory, cognitive testing,  and social interactions.
